The Secret Agent

The Secret Agent (Portuguese: O Agente Secreto; Brazilian Portuguese: [u aˈʒẽt͡ʃi seˈkɾɛtu]) is a 2025 Brazilian period political spy thriller film written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho. It stars Wagner Moura, Udo Kier, Gabriel Leone and Maria Fernanda Cândido. It follows Marcelo, a teacher caught in the political turmoil of the final years of the Brazilian military dictatorship. The film is a co-production between Brazil, France, Germany and Netherlands. The film had its world premiere at the main competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2025, where Moura won the Best Actor prize and Mendonça won the Best Director prize. It received widespread critical acclaim.
