Alice in the Cities (German: Alice in den Städten) is a 1974 German road movie directed by Wim Wenders. It is the first part of Wenders' "Road Movie trilogy", which also includes The Wrong Move (1975) and Kings of the Road (1976). The film was shot in black and white by Robby Müller, and contains several long scenes without dialogue. In the film, a professional writer loses a job due to his inability to complete an assignment. When he tries to travel to Munich, a stranger entrusts her daughter to his care and then disappears, and the duo search for the girl's estranged grandmother, aided only by the girl's hazy memories. The film's theme has been said to foreshadow Wenders' later film Paris, Texas (1984).
