A Sad and Beautiful World

A Sad and Beautiful World (Arabic: نجوم الأمل و الألم) is a 2025 romantic comedy-drama film co-written and directed by Cyril Aris in his first feature debut. The film set in Beirut stars Hasan Akil and Mounia Akl as childhood sweethearts Nino and Yasmina, who lose sight of one another, to reunite in their 20s, with their relationship developing in the backdrop of political turmoil and social collapse in Lebanon. The film had its premiere on 31 August 2025 in the competition 2025 of the 22nd Giornate degli Autori, an independent parallel section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. It won the People's Choice Award at the 22nd Giornate degli Autori and was selected as the Lebanese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards.
