28 Years Later

28 Years Later is a 2025 post-apocalyptic horror film produced and directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland. The third in the 28 Days Later film series, it stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Alfie Williams and Ralph Fiennes. Development of a third film began shortly after the release of 28 Weeks Later in 2007. It was delayed by conflicts over the film rights and entered development hell. It gained traction in 2024, after the rights to the first film reverted to series producer Andrew Macdonald from Searchlight Pictures. Macdonald sold the rights to Sony Pictures, on the provision the studio agreed to fund sequels. 28 Years Later marks the returns of Boyle, Garland and cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle to the series, all of whom worked on the first film, with original star Cillian Murphy serving as executive producer. It was shot back-to-back with its sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is due to be released in January 2026. 28 Years Later was released in the United Kingdom and the United States by Columbia Pictures on 20 June 2025. It received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed $151 million against a budget of $60 million.
